Residential Flats/Gloucestershire
The development is located in an industrial area. There are two options for this plot: a partial use of the area for a block of flats whilst maintaining the existing trade business in place, and the use of the entire plot for a more generous scheme of a terraced houses proposal.
The plot is bordered on one side by a busy road and to the opposite by a water stream and forest hill. The building is positioned so as to create a vegetation shield between the street facing flats and the main noisy road, and a communal back garden for the residents to enjoy. The layout concept is based on a half-level scheme which provides a private entrance to each flat, allows for a minimal corridor area whilst the main floor space is allocated to the net area of the apartments. The top level contains the owner’s penthouse apartment. Six other 2- and 4-bedroom flats complete the proposed development.
Terraced Houses/Gloucestershire
The design concept is to create a secluded area for living orientated towards the forest and the stream, benefiting from S-E aspect. To achieve this the street elevation incorporates only the pedestrian and car access and minimal window openings. Although modern-minimalist, this proposal uses local materials - timber boarding and bricks - to blend with the local atmosphere.
