‘The Hearth’ Restaurant / Bucharest
A conversion project in the old quarter of Bucharest The building was a stylish residence built in the 1880s and subsequently converted in the 1950s into a myriad of small apartments. The new owners wanted to convert the whole building into a traditional Romanian restaurant. To complicate the brief they also requested to create a contemporary loft apartment for themselves above the restaurant. Additional difficulties during the design and planning stage were created by the need to give all required functions enough space whilst remaining within the strict parameters of the planning permission. The project also included the definition of functional flows and the interior design of the restaurant and loft apartment.
