House extension, remodelling and retrofitting / Surrey
Great news! We’ve just secured planning permission for this project in the Green Belt—a real win given how difficult it is to obtain approvals in this treasured area. We're excited to bring this vision to life in such a special location!
A detached two-storey house that is nestled amongst mature woodland and with an easy access to the countryside provides a calm setting within today's increasingly digital and urbanised world.
It is a post-WW2 construction with no particular architectural merit, in need of major renovation in order to bring it into the 21st century through sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing contemporary architecture.
The proposal seeks to form a double garage at the ground level by extending the existing storage room to the North, under a proposed fully refurbished flat sedum roof. Subsequently, the carport will be altered to match the new arrangement. There will be internal alterations to the ground floor to create an open floor plan and provide a better functional space distribution by reducing the amount of existing corridors and redundant spaces.
In addition, a new extension of the existing first floor seeks to obtain an improved habitable space by using only the existing footprint of the main building. The result consists in two new bedrooms each having their own en-suite bathroom, all under a new pitched roof.
The proposed materials: standing seam matt metal finish of dark colour (anthracite), which will continue as a wall cladding for the full height of the first floor walls facing side elevations. Timber cladding or natural stone at ground floor level. Rendering over thermal insulation for the gable ends.
